Witch Hazel(Hamamelis virginiana): Witch hazel is found in most households in the form of a distilled liquid. As such, it is a safe astringent for common usage. As with all astringents, this herb may be used wherever there has been bleeding, both internally or externally. It is especially useful in the easing of hemorrhoids.97 Topically it has a well-deserved reputation in the treatment of bruises and inflamed swellings, and also with varicose veins.98 Witch hazel will stop diarrhea and aid in the treatment of dysentery.
